We are located between Lawton and Moville, Iowa about 16 miles east of Sioux City.
After many years of living in the city, we decided to purchase an old farm with a few acres to return to a more peaceful lifestyle. We had several goals in mind.
To restore the old farmhouse, they have so much more character. The house we are restoring was built in the 1920's. This restoration is still in progress and probably will be for quite some time as it is both very time consuming and expensive.
We wanted to raise as much of our own food as possible using all natural, organic method. We are not "certified" organic. For anyone that has never had homegrown meat, eggs, milk, produce once you do you will understand our motivation to produce our own. It is a lot of work but is so much healthier and taste so much better. We plant a large area into garden each year with the excess going to the farmers market and local customers.
We are fortunate to have a stream and well stocked pond on our farm providing much relaxation and a supply of fresh fish.
There is practically no waste on our farm now as we compost both traditionally and vermicomposting using redworms. What little we have that is not composted such as glass, metal and plastic is used for a new purpose. The worm casting produced are used to fertilize, restore and replenish the soil all around the farm including the lawn, garden and alfalfa field.
Becoming self-sufficent and self-sustained takes work but is also very rewarding.
We hope you enjoy your visit and return often.
